Dream Symbol:

Snows

Carl Jung's Interpretation:

From the perspective of Carl Jung, snow carries a deep significance in dream interpretation. Snow is a beautiful yet paradoxical symbol, representing purity and innocence but also cold and isolation. According to Jung's notion of the collective unconscious, these meanings are not derived from personal experience but from a shared human understanding of symbols. As a Swiss psychiatrist, he regarded snow as a trigger to unlock the deeper layers of one's psyche, forcing it to confront its own chilliness - the repressed emotions, icy fears, or cold indifference. As with all symbols in Jungian analysis, the interpretation should consider the overall context of the dream and the dreamer’s individual circumstances.

James Hillman's Interpretation:

Following the footsteps of James Hillman, we perceive snow in dreams differently. For Hillman, every object in the dream is a part of the dreamer's soul. Thus, snow becomes an image of the dreamer's inner mental landscape. It might denote a state of frozen emotions or thoughts, a longing for purity, freshness or a need for clarity and calmness. In Hillman's archetypal psychology, it's often an invitation to explore areas of oneself that appeared frozen or lifeless, to uncover the beauty inherent in these overlooked parts of our souls.

Classical Interpretation:

Classically, snow in dreams has been interpreted as a sign of release and transformation, a symbol of a fresh start or a clean slate. It represented purity, tranquillity, and peace.

Ancient Greek Interpretation:

In ancient Greek thought, snow was associated with the god Boreas, the cold north wind, signifying change, harsh situations and struggles. However, it was also seen as a symbol of beauty, as it was linked with the goddess Khione, who was herself the personification of snow.

Morphology:

The morphology of snow lends itself to various interpretations. As a predominantly white, clean substance that falls from the sky, it hints at divinity or blessings from above, but its cold and slippery nature can also suggest danger or discomfort.
